Energy Star®

Energy Star® qualified appliances save energy, money, and help protect the environment.  Join the national effort to help use energy wisely.  Buy appliances that have earned the Energy Star® rating.  Only products delivering the highest level of energy efficiency are awarded the Energy Star® from the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U. S. Department of Energy.

Saving energy also saves money. By using energy-efficient products, the average household can save up to $400 per year on utility bills.  (Savings are estimated.  Actual savings may vary.)

The U. S. EPA says that if just 10% of us used Energy Star® appliances, it would be the carbon dioxide pollution reduction equivalent of planting 1.7 million acres of new trees.

For more information on Energy Star® qualified products and energy efficiency, visit www.energystar.gov.

Home Energy Savings Program

Wallingford Electric Division (WED) is informing our residential customers of a temporary suspension of our very successful Home Energy Savings (HES) program.  For many years, the HES program has been providing energy audits and direct installation services to help residents become more energy efficient and save money on their utility bills.  A program suspension will occur while we evaluate and prepare future offerings.  The suspension will commence on June 30, 2018 and continue indefinitely.

Currently, audits are still available prior to June 30.  Customers interested in an HES audit are encouraged to contact CMC Energy Services, the WED's Home Energy Savings contractor, by calling 203-774-4059.

CMC Energy Services will provide the following services and products, valued at approximately $1,000 during an HES* audit:

  • Install up to 25 LED light bulbs
  • Blower door testing and air sealing to eliminate leaks
  • Duct sealing to reduce duct loss
  • Domestic hot water measures such as showerheads and aerators
  • Evaluation of attic insulation levels

The HES program is available at no cost regardless of the fuel type used to heat your home.

In addition, attic insulation rebates are available as an upgrade measure covering potentially up to 50% of the cost to increase attic insulation levels.  Insulation rebates will continue to be available after June 30, 2018 to customers who have had a Home Energy Savings (HES) audit.  Attic insulation services are available from CT Home Solutions by calling 1-888-218-0909.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this time period.

*Offer does not apply to customers who have previously received HES services.
