Stormwater and You
The Town of Wallingford is one of approximately 130 municipalities in Connecticut that are located either completely or partially within an urbanized area. These communities were mandated to seek permit coverage with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's (DEEP) Phase II Stormwater Program. The General Permit was issued in 2004 and reissued a second time in 2013 without changes. This General Permit expired in 2015 and was extended to January 2016 and then to June 30, 2017. A revised MS4 General Permit is expected to be issued and become effective on July 1, 2017.
Under the new General Permit, the Town must prepare and submit a Plan that addresses how the Town will comply with the six minimum control measures required by the NPDES permit. These six minimum measures include:
- Public Education and Outreach
- Public Participation/Involvement
- Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination
- The public may report potential illicit discharges or connections into the Town's storm sewer system. A reporting form is available here or at the Department of Engineering Office. Completed forms shall specify the location, date and time of an illicit event(s) and be returned to the Department of Engineering, Attention: Town Engineer.

- Good Housekeeping/Pollution Prevention
